I just love the 4th of July. I hope someday to take my kids every year to a very patriotic city (D.C., Boston, Philadelphia). After being in Provo for the 4th of July for the past 2 years, and going to the Stadium of Fire, I was so excited to hear that Trevor's mom bought us tickets for the show. Trevor had scout camp all week so he wasn't going to be able to go but I was ready to book my flight only to find out my work wouldn't give me the time off, bummer. So, I was determined to find something fun to do here in Denver.
I have always heard the Rockies fire works show was the best in Colorado and somehow I have never seen it after living here for 10 years. I was on craigslist for an hour before I finally found a deal and called the guy immediately. We went with our good friends Michael and Emi. Emi and I drove downtown by ourselves to meet a stranger to get the tickets, sounds safe, right? Let's just say we didn't leave the game disappointed.
The game itself was great, besides the fact that the rockies lost. Our seats didn't allow us to go down on the field so we were trying to sneak in only to hear Trevor say "hold on a sec" and find him returning 5 minutes later with 4 tickets for the field. Somehow, Trevor gets what he wants and can always make things happen. It is quite amazing. So we headed down to the field and found our seats on the grass and waited for the show to start. It was amazing. We laid down and watched the fire works look like there were going to fall right on us. It was an experience we will make a tradition.
Sunday, we slept in before I had to work- how lame. That night we went over to Grandma Nolen's for a feast and lots of fun.
Monday, after I had to work all day. we went over to Michael and Emi's for a shrimp boil (she is from Tennessee) and us being Colorado kids had no idea what we were in for. We loved it. Trevor said "all my favorite things shoved in one pot!"
It was a great weekend, and even though I wasn't at the Stadium of Fire rocking out to Carrie Underwood with Tausha, we had a blast. If only every weekend was like that! Now its back to work! July @ Nordstrom means SALE TIME which for me means lots and lots of work!
On another note, I didn't have time for my annual Wimbledon post. It was quite the year at the all England club. Andy Roddick lost to an unseeded player AGAIN, and I was mad as usual. Federer lost early as well, I think he is just getting older and wants to be home with his twins. I couldn't force myself to watch the women's match because seeing Serena win again makes me enraged. At least they lost at doubles. Women's tennis is so inconsistent it drives me crazy! Hopefully in a couple years, we will be there to see it all ourselves. I will sit on Henman Hill someday :)
